Twitter Overview

Twitter is a social network that is open to the public. Twitter's main features include following other users, direct messaging, and creating individual tweets. All these features allow the user to communicate with other users and navigate their tweets. Twitter is available through the internet or by app, and on both android and apple products. Tweeting

As the term may suggest, tweeting is the main focus of Twitter.
To tweet: Click blue icon w/ feather that says “Tweet”, Type a message less than 140 characters, Click “Add photo” to upload a photo from your computer( if you would like to add a picture). This message will be shared with your followers and will show up on your feed/timeline. After you publish tweet, you may edit further or even delete the tweet entirely.

Following

As with any social media, Twitter allows you to follow other people and other people to follow your account. When you first sign up, Twitter will suggest accounts for you to follow. Additionally, you may also search for people you wish to follow- simply hit the magnifying glass to search. Then, when you have found the account you wish to follow, click on them. This will bring you to their profile, now click the follow button- once it turns blue you are following them. At any time, you may unfollow accounts or change their 'follower settings'.

Direct Messaging and Replying

Besides just tweeting, it is also possible to message another user and respond to tweets that others have made. Directly messaging a person ensures that only you and they will be able to see your conversation. To send a direct message, first click on the small speech bubble icon in the top right corner. Next, type in the name of who you would like to send it to and hit next. Now you are able to type in the message you wish to share and send it to them.

Replying and quoting are different from direct messaging in that both of these can be seen on your feed and your followers are able to see them. To reply, go to the tweet you wish to reply to. Then, click the small grey arrow underneath it, and begin typing. After you are satisfied with your reply, you are able to hit send and the original tweeter will receive it. To quote a tweet, click on the tweet you wish to quote. Hit the two-arrow-square icon. The original tweet will be copied into a new tweet and you can now add your personal comments or thoughts.

Editing Your Profile

On twitter, you can edit your profile and personal settings, too. Your profile is how others see you and includes a profile picture, a header image, as well as your tweets, media, and favorites. To edit this, go to your profile and click 'edit profile'. Here, you can edit your name, location, picture, header, etc.

Signing Out

When you are done using Twitter, you may choose to sign out or stay logged in. To sign out, first click the small gray gear icon. This will bring up a new menu, at the bottom of which in 'sign out'. Click on this and then confirm that you want to sign out of Twitter.
